Night Fishing for Sea Trout on the Dart
Sea trout are creatures of low light. If you want success on the River Dart, you’ll need to embrace fishing after dark.
Why Fish at Night?
Sea trout feel safer under cover of darkness:
- They move more freely
- They feed more confidently
- Larger fish are far more likely to show
Preparing for the Night
Before heading out:
- Recce your pool in daylight
- Carry two torches (one as backup)
- Wear chest waders and warm clothing
- Take a mobile phone for safety
Fishing Approach
- Fish slowly and methodically
- Cover the water in controlled steps
- Let your fly swing naturally across the current
You’ll often feel rather than see the take—a sudden pull in the dark.
Top Tip
Confidence is everything. Fish your chosen fly properly and stick with it.
