Check. Clean. Dry.

Protect the River Dart by following three simple steps after every fishing trip.

Invasive non-native species and fish diseases can be unintentionally transferred between rivers, lakes and reservoirs on boots, waders, nets, clothing and other fishing equipment. Even when equipment appears clean, tiny organisms and parasites can remain hidden.

The Check, Clean, Dry campaign provides straightforward guidance that helps prevent the spread of invasive species and protects our fisheries for future generations.

After every visit to the water:

Check
Inspect your boots, waders, nets, clothing and all fishing equipment. Remove any mud, plants, animals or debris before leaving the site.

Clean
Thoroughly wash all equipment as soon as possible after returning home. Washing boots, waders and nets in warm water above 43°C helps kill many parasites and removes any remaining vegetation or organisms. Dispose of the wash water responsibly—never into a drain, stream, river or other watercourse.

Dry
Allow all equipment to dry completely before using it at another fishery. Many invasive species and disease-causing organisms cannot survive once thoroughly dried.

The Dart Angling Association encourages every angler to make Check, Clean, Dry a routine part of every fishing trip. By taking a few minutes to care for your equipment, you can help protect the River Dart and other waters from invasive species and fish diseases.
